Costa Rica day 3

Well today is day three! Today we shuttled into town and after about half an hour in a little coffee shop we all went across the street to the bikes. After a demonstration we were off leaving the city behind in single file on the side of the road. We soon had to leave the pavement behind as we entered the palm oil plantations and found ourselves on muddy backroads. After a while of enjoying the sceneryand getting covered in mud, the child portion of the ride ended, and all the kids got on the shuttles because apparently the next part was all up hill. Mom, dad, uncle Ford, auntie Linda and unle Brent made it to the end at a town called Londres, Quepos. Then we drove for a while, maybe half an hour until we came to the small town of Santo Domingo for a home cooked meal with a local family. Unfortunatly none of the kids were really hungry and Nathan (one of the guides) said that we were probably dehitrated.

After lunch we could either hike to the hotel or drive and since I was feeling pretty
rotten I rode with a few other.
Though most did hike those who did got to try eating termites and told us they tasted like carrots. We were staying at a hotel called Rafiki, it was out in the middle of nowhere but for that same reason it was beautiful and very peaceful. The rooms were huge tents that connected to tiled washrooms. (I found a gecko in ours!)The hotel had one of the five fastest waterslides in the world so we rode that a few times and then Simon, Johnny, Elle, Noah and I went out onto the lake they had there in a raft. We got to see what I think was an iguana but it was a really good swimmer because as soon as we got close to it Simon tryed to hit it waith a paddle and it swam away. After paddling on the lake for a few minutes we noticed that there were wierd seaweed/ algae bulges at the bottom of the lake (it was a small lake so we could see the bottom or what we thought was the bottom). Loqei, the son of the owners, (he's older though and has a little boy who's really cute!), told us that it smelled really bad when you touched the seaweed, but being the kids that we are we went ahead and grabbed some with our paddles. Anyway now Simon calls the lake "fart lake" because it really stinks and we smelled like it for a little while which wasn't fun.

After we showered we lost the smell and went down to dinner. Then we ended up playing monopoly on my phone all through the meal and into dessert (dessert was good but we didn't realize till after that we had no idea what we had just ate). Bye!

Here is a picture of the sunset from the hotel.

Costa Rica day 2

Day 2! Ok so today we woke up to a downpour. we went down to breakfast (I was late) and then took the shuttle to the Rainmaker Rain Forest were we trekked around looking at animals, bugs, lizards like the "Oh my gosh lizard" (actually its name), iguanas, another lizard that I forgot the name of and plants endangered and not (we got to eat a few and one tasted like mango).Since it had rained resently the terrain was mudding and slippery so we all got walking sticks.
They started out by showing us the tree they use to make Chanel #5 and then we entered the rain forest. After exploring on foot we took to the trees on rope bridgesthat stretched from tree to tree getting a birds eye view of the jungle below. Finally we ended up following a riverto the end, stopping at a few waterfalls along the way. After lunch we all got into the shuttle and went zip-ligning. We all got suitted upand then headed down to the first platform. There were 12 cables ranging from small, medium and long. So we climbed into the trees and then went over a few valleys as we zipped around from tree to tree. We did that for about two hours until we reached the last one and had to go though we all agreed it was the best part of our day.

Later that night the adults, Hannah and I went out for dinner, while everyone else stayed back at the hotel to watch movies, eat and by the end of the night they somehow managed to break the elevator. Oh and by the way here is a picture of the hotel.

Costa Rica Day 1

Today is day 1 of our twelve day trek! So today we woke up early and after some breakfast we grabbed a shuttle to an airstrip where we took a plane to our next destination. We could have driven but we had to cross a few mountains so it would have taken four hours by car, so instead we enjoyed a half hour plane ride with huge side windows for our enjoyment. When we got off the flight we took a shuttle to a restaurant for lunch (they haven't stopped feeding us since we got here!) and then went on a nature hike.
The "family" was split into two groups for the hike, (it was basically a walk because it was flat the whole way) the older group and the younger group. We saw two toed sloths, three toed sloths, crabs, frogs, monkeys,
grasshopper
and a fake Tucan our guide pretended it was real and all the kids fell for it including my dad who took a picture of it (not me :). At the end of the hike we arrived at the beach where they shot "spy kids" and "the blue lagoon".After swimming at the beach for a couple of hours we went followed another path back to the hotel and saw another animal uncle Brent described as being a rat-squirrel. further along the path we arrived at a river which was filled feces and other bodily waste. There were people with boats
setup on the shore and they were charging you to ride their boats to the other side and since we didn't want to go into the water we rode the boats. For those who didn't mind the water the boat guys pushed a log back and forth like it was a crocodile to scare them into riding the boats. Once we got accross Simon, Elle, Stella and Liam were throwing rocks at another log farther out in the water. Though once simon got a good throw in, it then opened its mouth and started moving in their direction. Turns out crocodiles don't like getting rocks thrown in their faces. After we all regrouped we set of for our hotel for the night.
We are at the hotel and now we are going to be going down to the restaurant in the hotel for dinner.
Well bye!
